Seven PhD studentships available to start October 2019

We are pleased to be launching seven full-time PhD studentships focusing on adult social care in England with support from the NIHR Academy. These studentships will start in October 2019. Students will receive an annual stipend, fees and research expenses. Studentships will be based at each one of our Core Member universities.

Doctoral students will be required to conduct research relevant to adult social care practice in England and in line with the School’s Business Plan.

Successful applicants will be expected to participate in activities organised by the School, particularly activities that involve other PhD students funded under this programme at other universities, and, as appropriate, other NIHR and NIHR Academy activities.

London School of Economics and Political Science – CLOSED

Applications were being sought for research relevant to adult social care practice in England. The successful applicant will join the LSE’s Department of Health Policy’s MPhil/PhD programme and work closely with Professor Martin Knapp and other colleagues in PSSRU at LSE.

King’s College London – CLOSED

King’s College London was recruiting for one full-time MPhil/PhD studentship, with a start date of October 2019. The doctoral student will be required to conduct research relevant to Adult Social Care Practice in England and in line with the NIHR SSCR’s Business Plan and the work and interests of KCL researchers as part of the NIHR SSCR.

A full-time PhD scholarship was available to be based in the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) and the Tizard Centre in the School of Social Policy and Social Research (SSPSSR), University of Kent. Particular areas of interest included: transition in social care; physical and emotional well-being; high quality services for better quality of life outcomes; and living a full adult life.

University of York – CLOSED

The PhD studentship was part of a collaboration between the DETERMIND (DETERminants of quality of life, care and costs, and consequences of INequalties in people with Dementia) project and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School for Social Care Research. The work undertaken as part of this PhD studentship will explore intergenerational discussions about finding and funding care.
