Three doctoral studentships from January 2021

The School launched seven full-time PhD studentships focusing on adult social care in England with support from the NIHR Academy. Four studentships will start in October 2020, and a further three are currently being advertised to start in January 2021. Students will receive an annual stipend, fees and research expenses. Studentships will be based at each one of our Core Member universities.

Doctoral students will be required to conduct research relevant to adult social care practice in England and in line with the School’s Business Plan.

Successful applicants will be expected to participate in activities organised by the School, particularly activities that involve other PhD students funded under this programme at other universities, and, as appropriate, other NIHR and NIHR Academy activities.

University of Manchester

This studentship is hosted by Social Care and Society, School of Health Sciences at Manchester.

Applications are sought for one of the following potential PhD projects: The transition of older people within care settings; Improving the recording, collection and analysis of routinely-collected data in social care; and Care home staff well-being at the time of COVID-19.

This studentship is hosted by the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre (CPEC) at the LSE.

Applications were being sought for research relevant to adult social care practice in England. The successful applicant will join the LSE’s Department of Health Policy’s MPhil/PhD programme and work closely with Professor Martin Knapp and other colleagues in CPEC at LSE.

The successful applicant will join the School of Social Policy and Social Research PhD programme and work closely with Dr Karen Jones in PSSRU and Professor Julie Beadle-Brown, Dr Michelle McCarthy and Dr Nick Gore among others at the Tizard Centre.
